Sources from Reuters report Intel and AMD notified Chinese customers last weeks that supplies can be delayed up to 6 months.
Currently there is a significant increased demand for hardware due to AI workloads. Compared to traditional workloads, more computing power is required for AI tasks. Over the last months we already saw shortages and increased prices of memory, storage and GPU power. Delayed supply of processors however is new.
Intel quarterly financial presentation already hinted a bit towards the topic. They stated their inventory was at the lowest point and they are doing everything they can to ramp it up for the second quarter of 2026. However it is also known that Intel is struggling to get good yields from their fabs.
The sources state that the delayed supply is in specif for 4th and 5th generation of Intel Xeon processors.
AMD stated during their quarterly financial presentation the same about increased demand and that they are going to increase the production capabilities. Keep however in mind AMD doesn't have their own fabs, instead they buy capacity at TSMC. TSMC has multiple customers all experiencing increased demand for their products, so we wonder how easy and profitable it is to increase it.
