Apple plans to use Intel fabs for chip production in 2027

Analyst Ming Chi Kuo, shared on X a message that Apple, starting from Q2 or Q3 2027 will start using Intel fabs for the production of the Apple M processors.

Both parties have signed a NDA, giving Apple more information about the 18AP PDK 0.9.1GA node of Intel. Simulations en research for the chip production on this node so far is following expectations.

Apparanetly Apple is planning to use the production capacity mainly for their low end M processors which are used in MacBook Air and IPad Pro. Other processors will still be produced by TSMC, the current production partner.

Shareholders reacted positive on the news. The stock almost reached the highest closing price of this year. Intel and also the American government invested a lot in the factories on US soil. The investments now start to pay off, with the first major customer coming in. Who knows who will follow besides Apple, maybe Nvidia?
